Soundtracks: The Corner

In early 2017 I was asked to direct a short ‘pop doc’ for BAFTA winning filmmaker Tristan Anderson, also co-founder of DocHeads. A ‘pop doc’ is a hybrid, somewhere in-between a music video and a documentary. Tristan asked a collection of UK short doc makers to direct individual films, one filmmaker per track, to be screened as a whole collection, titled ‘Soundtracks’.

I chose a track called ‘The Corner’ and paired it with some archive 8mm cinefilm footage I’d bought online that had been thrown out and lost in a house-clearance somewhere in North America. Recreated sound was then added by Sound Designer Richard Spooner.

Synopsis
A box of found footage from a house clearance takes us on a journey into the 1970s with a group of women travelling around North America. Address labels on the lost footage indicate that the 8mm cinefilm was developed years after it was filmed and delivered to a hospital, possibly to be watched one final time by it’s maker.
