AR StoryTrail – Against All Odds

Duncan Cowles was selected to design and create an AR (augmented reality) storytrail for Dundee as part of a UK-wide Immersive project titled ‘StoryTrails‘.

Working with Nexus Studios and Storyfutures Academy, Duncan researched and crafted a story that would be told across the city of Dundee, using archive provided by BFI, BBC and Dundee Library.

Voiced by Dundee born Olympian Eilish McColgan, Against All Odds tells the story of two sporting pioneers from Dundee, gold medal winning boxer Dick McTaggart and Dundee’s first ever Olympic medal winner swimmer Sarah ‘Cissie’ Stewart. Starting at Dundee Central Library, audiences will walk in a loop around Dundee city centre and witness the story of two working class pioneers as they fought against adversity and rose to become Olympic heroes. Unseen archive footage, and compelling audio testimony will combine in an immersive way via augmented reality to bring the story to life.

Launching on July 7th & 8th 2022, the project is free to experience on-site in Dundee, or at home via the Story-Trails app for a further six months.
