Nibclout Neebors

What makes the ordinary worth capturing?

Nibclout Neebors is a short documentary by Duncan Cowles commissioned by Audible and Aesthetica in 2026 as part of their Listening Pitch.

Synopsis

A filmmaker discovers a 1964 cassette of his great-grandfather reciting an obscure Scots poem about a village shop in the Scottish Borders. Unable to understand the thick accent and dialect, he takes the recording back to the community in search of translation. Through a collection of locals he meets along his way, he finds a dying language, a long lost relative trying to keep it alive and questions what makes the ordinary worth capturing.
