Mehdi

Mehdi is a documentary I was asked to create for the Refugee Survival Trust.

Essentially the goal of the film is to raise awareness of Asylum Seekers & Refugees in the UK. When begining the process I was struck by how little I knew, and by how much information I’d assumed that I knew, but didn’t. I hope the film will confront whoever views it into realising that they probably don’t know as much as they think they do.

Shot in Glasgow the film features Mehdi Saki, an Asylum Seeker who was forced out his country over three years ago. Mehdi has been refused the right to stay in the UK many times and is still waiting to hear if he can. If he was to be sent home he would most certainly be tortured and killed.

I received a Volunteer Recognition Award from my work in making the film.

I’m happy to announce that Mehdi was finally recognised, and received Refugee status November 2012.
